Hi everyone - What’s the best crib mattress you’ve found? I’m thinking of buying one for my 10-month-old, since the mattress she sleeps on seems pretty uncomfortable. I’d love for her to get some better sleep! There are so many crib mattresses to choose from and they can be pretty expensive, so I want to make sure I’m getting the best one! Any suggestions?

I highly recommend the NapYou mattress. We’ve had ours since my LO was six months old, and now she’s almost two! The firm side of the mattress was perfect when she was little, and now she loves sleeping on the softer toddler side, which is very comfortable and supportive. It was great to keep the same mattress when she moved from her crib to a toddler bed. She’s never been a great sleeper, but she seems to fall asleep faster and stay asleep longer on the NapYou mattress. I’ve heard that memory foam absorbs a lot of heat, but this hasn’t been a problem for us. The removable cover is washable and surprisingly breathable.

Yes, the cover is waterproof! It’s made of soft, organic cotton. I was so pleased to discover that the cover really protects the mattress from spills and accidents, because we certainly had a few of those!
@Adrianne Folsom, does this mattress have any smell to it? I really like the idea of a memory foam mattress for my baby’s crib, but I’m worried about a lingering smell ...
After I unrolled the mattress, it quickly expanded to its full size and shape. The “new memory foam” smell only lasted for a few hours, then disappeared completely.
The NapYou mattress is perfect if you have an infant or a toddler!. It’s a really comfy, high-quality, dual-sided mattress. I absolutely love how it cradles my son’s head and neck. I was so glad that I could get rid of the flimsy mattress that came with my son’s crib, and replace it with the safe and supportive NapYou. My son has slept on this mattress for a few months now and he seems much more comfortable at night!

My family loves the Graco infant and toddler mattress. It’s the ideal firmness for my 1-year-old to sleep on, and it fits our crib perfectly. He’s used it since he was a newborn. There was a little bit of an off-gassing smell, ... but that went away within 48 hours, especially since we kept it in a well-ventilated room.Read more
Our Graco mattress never expanded to a decent height … it was too thin to be comfortable for our little one, even after trying to fluff it up. One end of it was a bit more inflated than the other.
@Olivia Bergeron, I’m curious about the cover … will it really protect the mattress from leaks?
I would say that it’s more water resistant than waterproof, but it will definitely delay the liquid from seeping through. You can take the cover off ... and throw it into the washing machine. You might want to buy an extra mattress pad, just in case!Read more
We bought a Graco crib mattress for my granddaughter because it’s GREENGUARD Gold Certified, to make sure it was free from any dangerous chemicals. We’ve been pretty satisfied ... with it, although it took much longer than 48 hours to fully expand. Read more

The Naturepedic is a great choice if you want a non-toxic, chemical-free mattress with a waterproof, organic cotton cover. We were given a Naturepedic crib mattress as a baby shower gift, otherwise we probably wouldn’t have bought it because of the steep price. I’m thankful we have it, though! My only complaint is... that it’s not dual-sided. It would be nice to have a softer side, now that my daughter is a toddler. We’re thinking of adding an extra mattress topper to make it more comfortable for her.Read more

@Sophia Evans, how can the cover be waterproof if it’s just cotton?
Everything is organic cotton, including the fabric cover and the filling. What makes it waterproof is a polyethylene coating on the outside. ... I’ve done a lot of research so I know it’s safe for my baby. It has a much nicer feel than the plasticky covers on most crib mattresses, and you can still wipe it clean!Read more

I have a Delta Children Twinkle Stars mattress that each of my children slept on when they were younger. My kids always seemed comfortable on this mattress, although indentations appeared... in the foam after a while. As I recall, the mattress was pretty affordable. I’m glad your kids were able to sleep on the Delta Children mattress...unfortunately, it was way too firm for my son. If extra-firm is what you’re after, you might want to give it a try. ... We ended up putting a blanket on top of the mattress, and then the fitted sheet on top of that, to make it a bit more comfortable for my little boy.Read more
I was enticed by the price of this mattress (and the fact that it’s made in the USA), but we ended up being pretty disappointed. I bought it for my daughter’s toddler bed, but it quickly became dented... by her weight, even though she’s very light!Read more

If you can afford it, the Newton Baby crib mattress is a great find. It’s filled with a really unique polymer material that’s much more breathable than what’s inside most mattresses, ... which is great when your baby starts to roll over. No foam, latex, or springs! I love how you don’t have to use a separate sheet with the Newton Baby mattress. It comes with a nice washable cover that your baby can sleep on, so you don’t lose the benefit of how ... breathable the mattress is. We purchased a Newton crib mattress for our baby but ended up returning it. I liked how breathable and cool it was, but it had a really strong plastic odor. I know that the filling of woven polymer ... strands is what makes it so breathable, and from everything I’ve read, I don’t think the smell is from any harmful chemicals, but I just couldn’t get past it. The Serta Perfect Start is a reasonably-priced crib mattress with an easy-to-clean, wipeable cover. I know that firm mattresses are good for babies, although this one might be too firm. ... The vinyl cover on the Serta Perfect Start is good for protecting the mattress from big, messy accidents, but it’s also really noisy! It makes a crinkly sound every time my baby moves around.
From the picture I saw on Amazon, I thought that this mattress would have a firm side for babies and a softer side for toddlers, but both sides are actually the same firmness. ... I ended up buying an additional mattress pad because this was too hard for my two-year-old.Read more
