Taking place tonight at the Dolby Theatre, the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, are undoubtedly Hollywood’s most prestigious accolades, while the Golden Raspberry Awards are arguably the most infamous. Also known as the “Razzies,” the Golden Raspberry Awards have been “honoring” the worst films and performances of the year since 1981.

The 44th Annual Razzie Awards were held on “Oscar Eve” (Saturday, March 9, 2024), the day before the 96th Academy Awards. The biggest ‘“winner” of the night was undoubtedly Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey, an independent slasher film featuring Winnie the Pooh and other characters from the Hundred Acre Wood who go on a murderous rampage several years after Christopher Robin leaves them to attend college. (The copyright on A.A. Milne’s beloved children’s stories expired in 2022, allowing anyone to use or adapt the characters.) The film won Razzies for Worst Picture, Worst Screen Couple (Pooh and Piglet), Worst Director, Worst Screenplay, and Worst Remake, Rip-Off, or Sequel.

At the 44th Annual Golden Raspberry Awards (the Razzies), the big winners (or perhaps losers) were Megan Fox, Sylvester Stallone, and “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey.”.

In the acting categories, Megan Fox had the dubious honor of “winning” both Worst Actress for Johnny & Clyde and Worst Supporting Actress for Expend4ables. Jon Voigt was named Worst Actor for his performance in Mercy, while Sylvester Stallone was recognized as Worst Supporting Actor, also for Expend4ables.

The worst award in Hollywood:

  • Fran Drescher, the current Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG/AFTRA) President, is likely to be the only person pleased with earning a Razzie this year. Drescher was nominated in 1998 for The Beautician and the Beast, but won this year’s Razzie Redeemer Award, not for acting but for her role in helping to resolve the 2023 actors/writers strike.

  • Sylvester Stallone has the very dubious distinction of being the most-lauded actor at the Golden Raspberry Awards, with 12 wins to date out of 38 nominations. He was also proclaimed “Worst Actor of the Century” at the 2000 Awards.

  • The list of actors who have earned both Oscars and Razzies is surprisingly long and includes Marlon Brando, Kim Basinger, Roberto Benigni, Leonardo DiCaprio, Jared Leto, Halle Berry, Al Pacino, and even Laurence Olivier, among others.

  • Perhaps most memorably, Sandra Bullock attended the 2010 Razzies in person to collect her “Worst Actress” award for All About Steve and to explain to voters why her performance wasn’t actually bad. She won an Oscar for her performance in The Blind Side the following day.
